This just in: ovens and stoves are out. The latest star food craze,
raw-foodism - an offshoot of veganism - follows one simple rule: You can't
eat anything that has been cooked. That means no meat, rice, pasta, tofu or
chocolate (sorry, the soy and cocoa are cooked). So are health-conscious
devotees like Demi Moore, Angela Bassett, Woody Harrelson and Alicia
Silverstone abandoning their kitchens to survive on chopped celery? Nope -
the truth is, "raw" foodies spend more time in the kitchen than regular
cooks, turning coconut flesh into "noodles" and nuts into "crackers" with
the aid of hydraulic juicers, massive food processors, dehydrators and
warming ovens (their grub is allowed to be heated to 118 degrees). The next big diet trend? You might as well live on air.
